National Fluid Mechanics Hub Industry Day

The Leeds Institute for Fluid Dynamics are currently working with academic and industry collaborators across the UK,  to develop a proposal for a National Fluid Mechanics Hub. Led by colleagues from the universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh and Leeds, the Hub would aim to foster collaborations across the UK and become the acknowledged Centre of Excellence in fluid mechanics, representing the interests of the fluids community to government, funders and the general public.

An Industry Day was held at Cloth Hall Court in Leeds on 17th November 2025 to give industry and end-users further opportunities to contribute to the design of the Hub and to identify its key aims and objectives. We had a total of 40 participants (34 in person, 6 online) with 21 of these from industry or other end users, including AMD, Shell, Ithuriel, Parker Hannifin, Hydrotec, UKAEA, ANSYS, Health and Safety Executive, slb (formerly Schlumberger) STFC and the JBA Trust. We also had participation from the universities of Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford and Canterbury New Zealand.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the plans for the Hub are welcome to contact Harvey Thompson, [email protected]
