A big welcome to Dr Ben Booth who has recently joined on a 0.2 FTE appointment in the School of Computer Science.

This is the fifth and final of this round of such appointments under the Met Office Academic Partnership (MOAP across the University in SEE, Geography, Maths and Computer Science. Leeds is a founding member of MOAP and these posts will strengthen and broaden links between the Met Office and the University.

Ben is AI Lead for the Met Office’s AI4Climate Downscaling Flagship project. He leads a new group exploring how Deep Learning tools can be trained on existing high resolution datasets to translate global weather and climate information local impact relevant scales impacts.  He has an interest in risk and exploring climate hazard space from a background of working in the team that produce UK Climate Projections (UKCP09, UKCP18).
