Fluid Dynamics researchers attended two interdisciplinary workshops facilitated by sculptor and artist, Melissa Pierce Murray. They used artistic and sculptural techniques to investigate fluid dynamics and create objects relating to their research.

Workshop 1: Flow

Participants used a variety of studio processes and techniques to investigate and discuss properties of fluid dynamics, exploring properties such as flow, turbulence, viscosity, waves, and distribution using a variety of materials and artistic methods including painting with ink, plaster casting into clay molds, and construction/assemblage

Workshop 2: Thinking Objects

Melissa guided participants through a process of creating sculptural objects representing an aspect of their research, beginning by writing down descriptive adjectives to describe qualities of your research topic. Participants then moved into a process of selection, assemblage and construction to create sculptural objects.
