In recent years, Earth's North Magnetic Pole has shifted rapidly away from Canada towards Siberia, necessitating more frequent updates to navigation systems.

In a recent study published in Nature Geoscience, a team led from Leeds University - including LIFD member Dr. Phil Livermore - suggests that changes in the flow of molten material is responsible for the drifting Pole.

More information on this story can be found on BBC News. Dr. Livermore and his colleagues used data fromĀ the European Space Agency's Swarm satellites. You can read the full research paper in the journal Nature Geoscience.
